“What do you mean you’re sorry? Why didn’t you tell me?” I shouted “I wanted to but you wouldn’t let me” Banky’s younger twin,Tim replied. “Why are you in Banky’s room and where is he?” I demanded, “this is my room now Tinu, Banky asked to be moved to another room because the hot water here was not running, you know how particular he is about having hot showers in the mornings?” Tim tried to explain, “why wasn’t I informed?” I questioned angrily, “it happened less than an hour ago, I’m sure he would have told you eventually” he replied. At that moment, I hurriedly put my clothes on and was leaving the room when he pulled me back “my brother must not hear about this, it will kill him” he said, “well you should have thought about that when you were sleeping with his fiancée few hours to his wedding ” I said slamming the door behind me.
I returned to my room still in shock, I tried to take it off my mind but I couldn’t so I called a doctor friend of mine and confided in her, I asked her why my experience with Banky was different, it was then she told me he must have a condition called erectile dysfunction, she explained that it was the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity and that there were many causes. To make it easier, she divided them into physical causes which include taking certain types of drugs, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, injuries to the penis or spinal cord and old age. The other group of causes are called psychological causes and they include stress, depression, anxiety and fear of sexual failure.
A useful way you can distinguish between the two causes is that if a man still experiences his usual nighttime erections during sleep then his problem is most likely psychological. She also told me that it is a treatable condition, the treatment usually depends on the cause, some men might just need something as simple as counseling, changing their life style habits or discontinuing a particular drug while others may need to take special drugs to aid an erection. In some cases where all other forms of treatment have failed, surgery may be required,” Tinu narrated.
“Wow,I don’t even know what to say” Titi said when Tinu was done narrating her story.
“So why exactly did you run off like that?” Titi asked, “The moment I set my eyes on Tim, flashes of our sexual encounter kept coming back, I couldn’t take it off my mind, I felt like I would be betraying Banky if I married him but most of all I realised at that moment that I wanted something more, I couldn’t bear the thought of spending forever with a guy who couldn’t satisfy me and that was why I left. Banky is a great guy and I wish him all the best but I’m never going back to that altar to get married to him.”
That was how Tinu’s story ended, she asked me to share it so others can learn from it. If you are a man and you have this problem, don’t be shy about it, seek help from a doctor today, it could save your marriage. Erectile dysfunction is a common medical condition that can be treated.
