Dying to have her man 3: A love story with a lesson on peptic ulcer disease

Dr. O.

continued from episode 2

“What do you mean you’re carrying my baby?” Jide asked. “I’m getting married to your best friend soon, doesn’t that mean anything to you?” “No, it doesn’t,“ Toke replied starting to get angry, “it definitely didn’t mean anything to you when you slept with me,” she said remembering how it all happened.

Kike had asked her to stop by at Jide’s to pick up a cheque for one of the wedding vendors. Jide had offered her a drink, they sat down and chatted for a while and then Toke decided to try her luck with him. To her surprise, he didn’t resist much but afterwards, he begged her not to let Kike know about what happened between them and she she promised not to, that is till she found out she was pregnant.

“You need to calm down Toke, why don’t you wait till after the wedding? I’ll come and see you and we’ll sort everything out. I can’t possibly come there now” Jide pleaded. “What wedding?” Toke retorted, flaring up “don’t you get it? The wedding can’t hold anymore” she screamed, “I’m not having this baby out of wedlock!”

“What wedlock?” Jide asked, “I hope you are not going insane, what happened was a mistake, it should never have happened”, he said. “Ok then, watch me tell Kike all about your little mistake,” she replied before hanging up.

Toke picked up her phone and dialled Kike’s number…

“Hey dear” answered kike sounding excited, “I was going to call to check on you before going to bed, how are you?” “I’m not fine” Toke replied. “What’s wrong?” Kike asked. “I’m pregnant!” Toke replied. “No way”, Kike exclaimed with her mouth dropping wide open. “I know this is going to sound ridiculous, I don’t know how to tell you this, Kike, I’m pregnant for Jide!” said Toke. “You’re not making sense,” Kike said laughing, “Is this a pre-wedding prank or something?” “Call it whatever you like, I’m tired of playing miss nice girl, I’ve been doing that my whole life with you, you’ve always had your way with men, even to the point of stealing the only man I fell in love with, If he hadn’t met you, he would have come back for me,” Toke hissed.

Kike hung up and immediately started to call Jide, she didn’t want to believe what she just heard was real, she secretly hoped it was all a prank. “Is it true?” She queried when she called Jide. “Is what true?” he asked. “Is Toke really pregnant? Or was she joking?” Jide remained silent, he couldn’t bring himself to admit the truth. Kike knew him too well that his silence meant it was true. “Of all the women in the world, you had to pick my best friend?” “You have no shame, Jide, I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life with a dog like you,” she shrieked without waiting for an answer. “I wish you all the best with your new found love” she concluded. cutting the call.

Jide waited a while for her to calm down before he started begging her to take him back. He tried week after week but she would not let him see her let alone speak to her. He even went as far as threatening to kill Toke if she didn’t terminate the pregnancy, hoping that if Kike heard there was no baby anymore she’d take him back, but Toke wouldn’t hear of it, she was very happy with the way things had turned out between Kike & Jide. After several weeks of begging, Jide finally gave up, he had become an emotional wreck since Kike left him.

He was sitting at a spot on his balcony where he usually went to clear his head, thinking of everything he had been through in the past weeks when his housekeeper interrupted his thoughts “someone just dropped a letter for you, Sir.”

“Who is it?” He asked, “he said he was sent by a lady.” “Let me have the it” he said. Just at that moment, Kike also received the same letter from Toke. Kike and Jide, read aloud:

“I know I’ve wronged you greatly and I’m probably the last person you want to hear from but I had to let you know that I’m truly sorry for everything I put you through. Saying I’m sorry a thousand times may never be enough to erase the damage I caused between both of you but I pray you find a place in your heart to forgive me. I’ll be leaving the country to reunite with my family in the Caribbean. Don’t worry about me or the baby interfering in your lives anymore because we are going for good. It would make me the happiest woman alive to hear that you’re now together as man and wife. Please don’t let what I did ruin the beautiful relationship you had going on. I wish you both the best.
