Funke was a fun loving, hopeless romantic and aspiring doctor in her early 20’s. She was still in medical school when she met Tobi, a classmate of hers who was much older than she was.
They had met a couple of times at lecture rooms and always exchanged pleasantries but she never thought much of him, until after she attended a party with a close friend David, a course mate. “What were you doing giving Tobi so much attention at the party?” He had asked her that night on their way home from the party. “Nothing, we were just dancing”, Funke replied looking at David like he was insane. “Well I don’t want to see you getting close to him like that ever again, he’s bad news for you”, David scolded. Funke couldn’t understand why David was suddenly being so protective of her. He had always been like the big brother she never had but he never raised his voice at her until now.
You would think that his reaction would send a red flag to her about Tobi. After all, David and Tobi were best friends and partners in crime, but it didn’t. Funke was stubborn, she wanted to see for herself who Tobi really was.
Over the next couple of weeks they began to spend most of their time together until David found himself struggling to find a place in both their schedules. He was gradually becoming a third wheel and it made him sad that Funke had not heeded his advice so he gradually withdrew from her till the only time they ever spoke was when they saw each other at school. Funke was too engrossed with Tobi to even notice. She eventually agreed to date Tobi despite warnings from David and other friends that he would break her heart. “I wouldn’t date him if I were you”, her close friend, Carine had warned when she came over to visit one day. “That guy is not right for you,,he goes after every girl on campus.”
Funke could not understand why everyone thought so wrongly of Tobi. She had gotten to know him better and all she saw was a warm, kind-hearted guy whose company she had grown to love until one day after lectures she was home waiting for Tobi to come over for his usual daily visits when she received a message on her phone…
“One night with me, then the next with you, for how much longer will this continue?”
