“What do you mean he’s right here with us?” Chris said dragging her across the room by the ears, “how dare you let those stupid words come out of your mouth?” “Leave her alone” the policeman said pulling the maid away from him, “she speaks the truth”, “truth?” Chris asked panting heavily, “what truth?” “Maybe Bobby might be able to help us with the answer to that” the policeman replied turning to Bobby, “hold on! Are you trying to say I killed my wife?” Bobby said pointing to himself, “Mr Bobby, the statement you gave says you were out of town on the day of the murder, so how is it possible you were seen entering the estate by more than two people shortly before the murder?”
“That’s impossible, I came back early the next morning “Bobby replied, “then why were you checked out of your hotel the night before? we have the hotel records from that night and CCTV footage from the hotel as proof ” the policeman countered “I could no longer foot the hotel bills as I had run out of cash, I had to check out and move in with my friend” “really? What friend? Because we were reliably informed by the hotel taxi driver that dropped you at the motor park that you boarded a bus that night to Lagos.” There was a long pause, Chris stood there confused still trying to make sense of all he had heard, “you know what? I don’t care anymore, Yes I killed her, but it was a mistake, I never mean’t for her to die, I don’t know what came over me” he said starting to cry, “you murderer, you killed my sister” Chris shouted pushing him against the wall and holding him by his shirt collar, “you’d have done the same if you were me” Bobby said fighting back, the policemen immediately rushed forward separating them.
“I would do no such thing I’m not a murderer like you” Chris screamed,”oh really?” Bobby replied, try waking up one morning to find out your only Child belongs to another man and your wife didn’t even have the courtesy to tell you that the Child she’s carrying is not yours” “what do you mean?”Chris questioned breathing heavily, his chest pumping up and down with sweat running down his face like he was going to explode. “I mean exactly what you heard, the last four years I have spent married to your sister has been full of lies and deceit.” “I think you both should sit so we can all get to the bottom of this” the policeman advised.
Minutes later after they were all seated, Bobby began his story, “two days before I was scheduled to return from Ibadan, I received a phone call from a stranger asking us to meet because he had some vital information that would interest me. Initially I declined because I thought it was one of those swindlers trying to deceive me into giving them some money till he mentioned my wife’s name and where we lived. I became curious and decided to meet with him so we arranged to meet the following day at a nearby restaurant. On getting there I was greeted by a fine looking young man, he seemed to be in his early 30s, he introduced himself to me as Jason.
He went on to tell me he knew my wife very well, I would not have believed him if he hadn’t shown me text messages and calls he received from her number on his phone, he even showed me sms alert from his bank showing that my wife had been paying huge sums of my hard earned money into his account. I became angry and inquired to know who he was, he cut me off saying that was not necessary for now and insisted that I be more concerned about the information he wanted to pass across to me, “what do you want from me?” I asked him, “you have something that belongs to my Late brother” he told me, “your late brother? I don’t even know you to start with, who the hell is your late brother?” He immediately brought out a picture of my wife sharing a kiss with a man and placed it on the table in front of me. My heart skipped several beats when I recognised who it was, “no it can’t be” I screamed, “that’s impossible.” I said standing up but I felt my legs start to give way as I came crashing to the floor holding my chest”…
