What have I gotten myself into?” Niyi pondered when she had left, “I need to act fast” he thought, “I know what to do” he whispered to himself. “I will get married to Didi as soon as possible so that by the time she finds out, it will be too late.” “Yes that’s what I’ll do” he said nodding, “she’s too precious to me, I can’t afford to lose her now.” Just as he had planned, a few days later, he proposed to an excited Didi.
“I want us to get married as soon as possible, preferably next month ” he said “what’s the rush?” Didi asked giving him a playful punch, “I’m going to need more than a month to plan my dream wedding.” “Baby you can take all the time you want to plan your dream wedding” he replied. “I just want us to have a court wedding next month, my elder brother will be back in the country at that time and his presence at our wedding means a lot to me” Niyi explained. “Well if it means that much to you I don’t have a choice” Didi said, “next month is fine but before making any plans I would like you to meet my mum” she said giving him a tight hug, “that’s not a problem. Thanks for understanding” Niyi whispered heaving a sigh of relief.
“Mum I have good news for you” Didi squealed excitedly over the phone as she told her mother everything that had happened, “that’s wonderful” her mother replied “invite him over for dinner this weekend and let’s have a feast, I also have some news for you but I will save it till the weekend.”
The long awaited weekend finally arrived, Didi’s mum had prepared delicious dishes and was waiting to receive her daughter and her fiancé who seemed to be running behind schedule. “I hope I’m going to like him”she thought,”my daughter is a princess and I will not marry her off to just any man” she said to herself as she waited anxiously for their arrival.
Finally, there was a knock at the door, “that must be Didi with her fiancé ” she thought rushing to the door excitedly. “Hi mum”, a very cheerful Didi greeted her when she opened the door, “hello darling” she replied opening her arms to give her a big hug, “where is he?” She asked looking over Didi’s shoulder when she didn’t see anyone coming behind her “he’s still parking the car, he’ll be up in no time” she said dragging her mum into the living room to sit. “What’s the news you wanted to tell me? I can’t wait anymore” Didi asked curiously, “well, this might come as a shock to you…” Her mum began when Niyi suddenly walked in.
“You?” Her mum shouted springing up from her chair, “what are you doing here, and how did you find my house?” She shouted, “mum that’s my fiancé” Didi interrupted looking perplexed, “your what?” Her mum shouted turning pale, “this is not happening” she said shaking her head, “what do you mean mum? What exactly is the problem?” Didi asked. “I’m pregnant Didi, that is the problem. I was going to tell you before he walked in.” Didi stood there looking even more confused “Is this a joke mum? you are embarrassing me” she said still trying to figure out what was going on. ” I wish it was” her mum replied “maybe you should ask your fiancé” she said giving Niyi who had stood frozen at the door a cold stare. “I had no idea she was your daughter, Madam Rose” Niyi stammered. “what is going on here?” Didi screamed, “your so called fiancé is responsible for getting me pregnant” her mother replied, “he is the father of your unborn sibling”…
