Old enough yet unmarried 31: Love, betrayal and health

Dr. O.

continued from episode 30.

Yemi said she was too tired to leave the house and would rather stay home than settle any conflicts so I was left with no other option than to go by myself.

I really didn’t feel like going either but I didn’t want to be held responsible for not doing anything to prevent murder so I dragged my swollen feet out of the house, Yes! I said swollen feet, because that’s what they were at the moment, I’m pregnant, remember? it’s normal to have swollen feet and ankles during pregnancy, because your body retains more fluid, the swelling is usually gradual and is not painful or harmful, it goes away after delivery of the baby. So next time you see a pregnant woman with swollen feet, don’t be too surprised, she’s not suffering from a disease, it’s just pregnancy!

And for my fellow pregnant women, you can reduce the swollen feet by raising your legs on a stool or chair when you sit or on pillows when you lie down, avoid standing for too long, increase your physical activity and taking regular walks.

In a few cases, however, ankle and foot swelling can be a sign of a more serious condition especially if it happens suddenly, is painful or occurs in only one instead of both legs.

By the time I arrived at Charly’s place, Ken had managed to get the knife from her, her younger sister, Osas was still too scared to come out of the room. I advised Ken to take Charly out for some fresh air, possibly to get some ice cream so I could rescue Osas when they were gone.

Of course Charly knew what we were up to, she blatantly refused to be taken anywhere, she was bent on teaching Osas the lesson of her life, it was not until her mother called to talk to her that she calmed down and agreed to go out with Ken.

While they were away, I knocked on the door and shouted to Osas that the coast was clear, at first, she didn’t believe me, she thought i had connived with Charly to lure her into coming out, it took almost 30 minutes to convince her otherwise.

When she finally came out she had her things packed and was ready to leave the house, “I’m going back to Benin” she announced to a confused me as I stood there and watched her roll her suitcase past me, “no wait!” I called out to her, “what about the job interview you came for?” she looked at me like I had just said something stupid and finally hissed before replying, “I don’t care about the interview anymore, my life is more important now”
“It’s too late for you to travel now”, I insisted, “I don’t have a choice” she replied, “you can stay over at my place and then leave first thing tomorrow morning” I offered, “what if she comes to look for me there?” She asked, “she won’t, I won’t let her come near you” I promised following her out of the apartment and locking the doors, I sent a message to let Charly know that Osas was gone and I’d left her keys under the carpet.

On the way back to my place, I struck a conversation with her and asked why she seduced her older sister’s lover and that was when the story got complicated, “which lover?” She asked rolling her eyes, “Ken of course” I replied, “Ken?” She repeted letting out a long evil laugh, “what’s so funny?” I asked starting to get annoyed.

“Ken is my ex” she said with a sudden serious look on her face, “your ex?” I asked looking puzzled, “how is that even possible?” …….
