5 easy steps to losing weight

It is no longer news that a new year is here to stay and so glad that you made it. Happy New year!
Each new year comes with its expectation, as we jot down resolutions to be achieved through the course of the year. Study has it that most do not come past the first two months before it is relegated to the back burner.

 

 

 

What are your fitness goals for 2017? Watch this, I did not say “Resolutions” hence what you seek to achieve should be SMART-Specific, Measurable,Achievable, Realistic and Time bound.
If your goal is to lose 20kg and I do hope not in 3weeks because statistics have proven that people who lose weight drastically within a short period, snap back to either their former size or higher.

 
To commence this task, you must ensure that your mind is in agreement with what your body is about to do (it all begins in the mind). Draw up a plan that will ensure that at least a kg is dropped each week (appro. a deficit of 3500calories) and back it up with a sustainable lifestyle (Note: Fitness is a lifestyle and not a fad diet)

 
Want to start the year releasing endorphins and sweating it out, here are a few steps;

Exercise: this should include a routine that you enjoy -dancing, jogging, power walking, zumba,HIIT,yoga,Pilates,strength training and many more. It is recommended that you do this thrice a week for 30-45 minutes. Remember your form during any exercise is key to staying injury free.

Eat: the question is what are you eating? Your body requires food to produce energy that fuels your daily activities. Consume healthy meals that works to revitalise and nourish you. Look out for healthier options like replace white carbohydrates with complex carbs that is white rice for brown rice, sweet potatoes for yam. Also, bulk up your meals with vegetables. In all of these, moderation is king (sizeable portions). Healthy does not mean not fattening because all classes of good contain specific amount of calories.

Drink water: water a solvent that is universally acceptable as it aids weight loss, easy digestion, reduces joint pains and skin glow. You are expected to drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday.

Sleep: the body needs to shutdown after a day’s activity. Do not deprive your body the rest it deserves this new year. Make it a conscious effort to sleep between 6-8 hours.

Find a buddy: everyone needs someone to push them to attain a goal. Your buddy must be one who is also set to walk and work the journey with you. They keep you accountable without judging you.

While on this, distractions will come but choose not to make a bad day ruin your year. Do not quit on yourself, it is possible to get results by staying consistent.

Whatever your fit goal(s) is/are in 2017, it is yours to earn. Enjoy the ride and celebrate victories.
