The prostate is a small gland in the male reproductive system. It is located below the bladder and opposite the rectum. The prostate produces some of the fluid in semen which carries sperm from the testicles during ejaculation.
Considering the important role the prostate plays in a man’s reproductive system, it is highly recommended that men, both young and old, make certain health-wise choices to not only reduce their risk of developing prostate problems, but also to improve their overall health. Some of these recommendations are:
- Maintaining a healthy weight
Being over-weight or obese raises a man’s risk of developing problems with the prostate. On the other hand, maintaining a healthy weight would boost your prostate health. It is important that you exercise everyday or on most days of the week. Regular exercise would improve your overall health and reduce your risk of prostate problems
- Eating healthy foods
A diet high in processed and refined foods, too much meat and fatty foods, and regular intake of soft-drinks increase your risk of prostate cancer and other prostate problems. Ensure that your diet consists mainly of healthy foods. Avoid eating too much red meat; eat fish instead. Avoid too much oil in your meals; eat more of fruits and vegetables
- Avoiding constant stress
Stress significantly impacts prostate health. Studies establish that stress reduction in addition to regular exercise and healthy eating, reduces the risk of prostate problems and can also stop the progression of prostate cancer
These recommendations are not only necessary to prevent prostate problems, they are also very important for your overall health.
