Milk is a rich source of calcium which is one of the most important minerals for the human body. Calcium helps with the formation and maintenance of strong and healthy bones and teeth. It also performs other important functions including absorption of other nutrients and disease prevention.

Lately, milk has come under scrutiny and has been said to pose a health risk. You should know that milk is a healthy drink but there are certain persons who would be better off without drinking milk.

These persons include those with lactose intolerance, those who are allergic to milk and those who have certain health problems. But in otherwise healthy children and adults, milk is beneficial and should be taken regularly.

Because calcium, which is richly available in milk, helps form and maintain strong bones and teeth, children would particularly benefit from drinking milk. You should however note that cow’s milk is not well tolerated by babies less than twelve months.

If your children love soft drinks and other sweetened drinks and consume them regularly, why not replace these drinks with milk? These drinks contain a lot of sugar and are also deficient in nutrients. Your children will definitely not benefit from taking them.

Milk, on the other hand, is rich with other nutrients besides calcium and apart from being healthy, it also tastes good too. If your children have not been enjoying this nutritious drink as often as they should, you should include it more in their diet. Here is why:

  • It helps prevent headaches
  • It helps to boost the immune system
  • It promotes better sleep
  • It helps to maintain the health of the teeth and also prevent tooth loss
  • It keeps the blood pressure levels in check (children can have high blood pressure too)
  • It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases
