5 Simple home remedies guaranteed to relieve premenstrual syndrome

Premenstrual syndrome is a very common condition among women. While some women have very mild symptoms that are almost unnoticed, some have more pronounced symptoms that can be distressing.

These symptoms are usually both physical and emotional symptoms and they include mood swings, acne, crying spells, irritability, trouble sleeping, abdominal bloating, breast tenderness and headaches.

While there is no one single treatment for premenstrual syndrome, there are things you can do which would grant you relief from your symptoms. Here are some of the them:

  • Do not smoke
  • Ensure you manage stress
  • Exercise for at least thirty minutes every day or on most days of the week
  • Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of fluids
  • Get enough sleep daily
  • Avoid salty and sugary foods especially when you are experiencing those symptoms
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol
  • Eat foods rich in calcium
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals. This will help reduce bloating

If your symptoms are severe, you should see your doctor. Experiencing severe symptoms of PMS is another condition on its own and it’s called premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This condition is not very common and few women experience it. Its symptoms include:

  • Extreme anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • Severe mood swings
  • Painful cramping
  • Suicidal thoughts
